On Becoming A Virtual Assistant

Hello Guys and Ladies,

I feel like I have been out of town for so long I feel like a stranger, the town is my blog! LOL.

It is good to be back, I hope I am back because Adulting. Yes, that's the excuse I am sticking with this time. Tongue out!

Welcome back my biggest supporters who kept asking when I'm posting and my new readers, pls don't exit this town without leaving a comment, be nice, I'm coming from a lot. hahaha

For the reason I am making this post; I am now a Virtual Assistant. Yaaaaay!

One of the best decisions I made this year is applying for the ALX program in June, 2022.

ALX means Africa Leadership Xcelerator. The link was sent to me by a friend who didn't even know I had my eye on tech, but is aware of how much I invest in self development, Why you should always let people know what you stand for and where you stand. Yes, your motivational speaker is here! LOL.

This world is rich, Africa is a rich. Omo! (Ask a Yoruba friend to help you with translation)
It's been eight weeks of exposure and learning.
My vision and purpose is clearer.
Thanks to this Virtual Assistant Program.
They pushed me, stretched me, I met people, I entered places.

I am not the same Empress that started the program and I am grateful for growth and additions; mentally, physically and career wise and I am so inspired and ready to take on the world.
Yes, I've got that much confidence.
I also realized everything I have been involved with in my life has been preparing me for this moment and season.

Things I got after and during my program
I got the gift of a MacBook air.
Free data from friends and family.
Free data from my Boss.
A promotion at work.
They all made it a bearable ride. I am grateful for each one of you. Thank you.
My surest support systems.

ALX offers programmes that are designed to provide you with the in-demand skills for the careers that power the world. It is free to access the training programs this year as fee is waived due to the sponsorship of the Mastercard Foundation and other partners.

You have to go through an application process that takes about ninety minutes and will be contacted if you made it.

To graduate from this program, you must:

Complete and pass all 8 Milestone assignments by the course end date

Complete all assigned peer reviews in a timely manner.

Participate in discussions with your squad at least weekly on Slack app

To graduate from this program with HONORS, you must:

1) Complete all of the above graduation requirements.

2) Complete (and pass) all milestones on time.

ALX are serious and deliberate about community. They believe it is a really important part of being a VA and can be a hugely important part of one's career journey.

There are 3 reasons that they put such emphasis on community:

1. To build a strong network beyond the program

2. To empower you to lead your career journey

3. To help each other as solo online job searching and learning are hard to maintain and even intimidating. A proper support system makes all the difference.

The knowledge, soft and hard skills I have garnered here can never be overemphasized.

The knowledge gained each week and the testimonies of past graduates makes me look forward to the next milestone each week.

Each week, we were provided with a lot of valuable learning content to go through on Canvas. The learning content is to help learn and practice valuable VA skills, and to equip you to successfully complete that week's Milestone assignment.

We were taught that successful students manage their time so that they can consume the learning content and work on their Milestones for several hours every day.

Aside from the skills I now have, It taught me the value of prioritising, time management, networking, integrity, and I have unlocked so many parts of me I didn't know existed or had buried for a while now.

There are numerous reasons to become a VA and determining your own reasons can help you to be good at your job, gain an understanding of your interests, map your career path and find your personal niche and purpose.

I am very well equipped, I have learnt the core skills for being a VA which is G-suite, How to write Cover letters, Topnotch resume training plus templates were shared for free, LinkedIn profile revamp was one of my assignments, how to apply for my choice job, how to ace interviews, how to network professionally and more.

I have learnt the advantage of having and surrounding yourself with the right circle and people who are committed to your growth. My network has been very beneficial to me as I am in ALX because of my network.

I recently got a job with a Fintech startup through my network.

My Circle -The set that plays hard and works harder! That is Us.

It's been so amazing. Actually that's an understatement, Intensive but amazing. The training, the resources, the networking.

The brains!!!!!!!!!!!!

As someone said, this ALX course is empowering and everything you are learning can be applied in your daily lifestyle, businesses and relationships, even if you do not work as a VA!

I hope this helps everyone starting the program soon or planning to apply as soon as it is available again.

Yours who is always willing to share growth opportunities and support you.
